About New Athos Cave

One of the largest show caves in the world. Discovered in 1961 and opened to visitors in 1975. Visitors ride an underground railway into the mountain. Huge chambers include the Hall of Speleologists. The cave formed in a karst massif near the Black Sea coast. Walkways cross underground lakes and canyons.
