About Denisova Cave
A key site in the study of human evolution in the Altai Mountains. A finger bone found in 2010 revealed a new human species, the Denisovans. Neanderthal and Denisovan remains overlap in the same layers. The oldest known bone needle was discovered here. Humans and animals have sheltered in the cave for over 200,000 years. Excavations continue every summer.
